Is this course for me?

This course is suitable to provide healthcare support workers and adult social care workers with an overview of the Mental Capacity Act and DoLS, to ensure that they have the knowledge and skill to deal with situations relating to mental capacity.

Like all of our Health and Social care courses our Level 2 Award in Mental Capacity Act, including DoLS is mapped to CQC regulations, national guidelines and recognised qualifications. Find out more here.

Syllabus

What will I learn?

This course covers the following subjects:

  • The aim and spirit of the Mental Capacity Act
  • When and how MCA balances empowerment with protection
  • Explanation of how and when to assess a person's capacity
  • How to assess what is in someone's best interests
  • Explanation of how the MCA defines restraint
  • Introduction to deprivation of liberty

Assessment Criteria

This course is assessed via a knowledge paper at the end of the session.
